मूलम्

अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान् कपिध्वजः |
प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसंपाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः || १-२० ||

Meaning

शब्दार्थाः (Word for word)

अथ -- then; व्यवस्थितान् -- situated; दृष्ट्वा -- having seen; धार्तराष्ट्रान् -- Dhritarashtra's men; कपिध्वजः -- one who has a monkey on his flag (indicates Arjuna here who had an insignia with Hanuman on his flag); प्रवृत्ते -- in the beginning; शस्त्रसंपाते -- in the battle (lit. in the flying forth of weapons); [प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसंपाते -- with the battle about to begin;] धनुः -- bow; उद्यम्य -- having lifted; पाण्डवः -- Pandu's son (here, Arjuna);

अन्वयः (Word order)

अथ शस्त्रसंपाते प्रवृत्ते व्यवस्थितान् धार्तराष्ट्रान् दृष्ट्वा कपिध्वजः पाण्डवः धनुः उद्यम्य...

अनुवादः (Translation)

Then, with the battle about to begin, having seen Dhritashtra's men situated (there), Pandu's son -- the one with a monkey (Hanuman insignia) on his flag, having lifted his bow.....

Notes

  1. Ramanuja and Swami Ramsukhdasji don't have anything practical to add here.
  2. Both note that the "monkey" on Arjuna's flag is Hanuman. Ramanuja poetically calls Arjuna लङ्का-दहन-वानर-ध्वजः
