अन्वयः (Word order)

अस्माकं तत् भीष्माभिरक्षितं बलम् अपर्याप्तम् । एतेषां तु इदं भीमाभिरक्षितं बलं पर्याप्तम् ।

अनुवादः (Translation)

" That army of ours protected by Bhishma is insufficient. This army of theirs protected by Bhima is however, sufficient."

Notes

1. Both Ramanuja and Swami Ramsukhdasji interpret it in the way given above. However, the translation of this verse is a matter of some dispute between commentators. Some commentators interpret अपर्याप्तम् as insurmountable and पर्याप्तम् as surmountable. The relative merits and demerits of these alternate interpretations are not of any practical consequence, in my opinion.
2. RSDji points out that despite having a larger army, Duryodhana does not feel it to be sufficient because an unjust and sinful person never feels satisfied with what s/he has.
3. RSDji further notes that when Arjuna and Duryodhana were given a choice between Krishna and his Narayani army, Arjuna chose the former and Duryodhana, the latter.RSDji concludes that one who chooses God will always feel self-sufficient while a person who chooses to go after worldly glory will always be plagued by a sense of insufficiency.

Practice Notes

It might be worthwhile to reflect when one feels a constant feeling of material inadequacy. This constant feeling might sometimes actually be originating from a lack of morals, character or spiritual "funds". I have never tried practicing this type of reflection till now, so I am not sure about its efficacy. It is quite easy, in my opinion, to dismiss a genuine lack of basic material goods as insufficient spirituality. I will try practicing this and if in my practice I come up with something useful, I will note it down here in the future.
