Indic Scripts
You can easily add Indic text to any page. Currently, the following scripts are supported:
- Devanagari - देवनागरि
- Tamil - தமிழà¯
- Kannada- {K= kannaDa =K} Note: Not working in MacOS 10.5
- Tamil with subscripted consonations (for Sanskrit) -{TS= ka kha ga gha =TS}
- Roman transliteration - roman-lipau saá¹ská¹›talekhanam
Devanagari
For Devanagari, use the Harvard-Kyoto transliteration scheme (or the modified scheme described below), and surround it with the special markup '(:d ' and ':)':
(:d zrImAn venkaTanAthAryaH :) produces शà¥à¤°à¥€मानॠवेङà¥कटनाथारà¥यः
The converter is smart and figures out nasals and anusvÄra automatically.
Tamil
For Tamil, use the Madurai transliteration scheme and surround it with '(:t ' and ':)':
(:t aazhvaar thiruvadigaLE saraNam :) produces ஆழà¯à®µà®¾à®°à¯ திரà¯à®µà®Ÿà®¿à®•ளே சரணமà¯
Kannada
Kannada uses a modified Harvard-Kyoto, in that short 'e' and 'o' are lower case and their long equivalents are upper case 'E' and 'O' respectively. Surround the text with '(:k ' and ':)':
(:k innu dayabAradE dAsana mElE? :) produces (:k innu dayabAradE dAsana mElE? :)
Tamil with Numbered Consonants
Use modified Harvard-Kyoto surrounded by '(:ts ' and ':)':
(:ts akhilabhuvanajanmasthEmabhangAdilIlE :) produces (:ts akhilabhuvanajanmasthEmabhangAdilIlE :)
Roman Transliteration
Use modified Harvard-Kyoto surrounded by '(:r ' and ':)', or simply surround the phrase with double braces '{{' and '}}:
(:r akhilabhuvanajanmasthEmabhangAdilIlE :) produces akhilabhuvanajanmasthÄ“mabhangÄdilÄ«lÄ“
{{rAmaH}} produces rÄmaḥ
