Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha
Dear Srivaishnavas,
Some information on this subject that I thought shall share with you
all. My respected mother Shrimathi Kothainayaki Venkatapathy gave me
this information.

Kaiskam is a kind of music composition(in tamil it is called as PAN).
In today's carnatic music they call it as bhairavi ragam. It is a
trend that people fast on this ekadasi night throughout and the next
day early morning(they call it Jagara Veratham, just after mid-night)
they sing hymns in praise of Lord Shriman Narayanan for his pleasure
without expecting anything. This is the story of the kaisika vratham.
In south india it is a custom that the theerthakarar of the
respective temples to read the Kaisika Puranam in the early morning.
There is a reference to this puranam in Varaha Puranam and the Varaha
Puranam says that this kaisika puranam was told by Varaga nayanar
(perumal) to Sri Boomi piratti.

If there are any mistakes in the above it is purely due to the lack
of my translational skills or my mis-interpretation. Shrivaishnava
perunthagayeer please feel free to correct the same.

Adiyen Ramanuja Dasan,
Lakshmi Narasimhan
