[sv-rituals] Dharma Sutras online
From the Bhakti List Archives

Dear Budding Mimamsakas, There are many resources available on the internet to help in the study of rituals. Some of these require knowledge of Sanskrit but many don't. I really feel we owe a debt of gratitude to all the western scholars who have taken the time to make these shastras available to the world at large. In an age when most Indians take little interest in their own heritage, it is refreshing to see people from a completely different culture making this their primary focus of study, thereby helping us understand our own history. The principal Dharma Sutras, including the Apastamba, Bodhayana, and Vaikhanasa, are available in transliteration at: ftp://ccftp.kyoto-su.ac.jp/pub/doc/sanskrit/dharmas/ This site also has many other Sanskrit texts available. The Apastamba Dharma Sutra is available in English at: http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/sla/index.htm Be forewarned: you may be astounded at how primitive and non-spiritual many of the thoughts contained therein are! There is a site which presents Vedic rituals from the Iyer/smArta perspective at: http://www.tamiliyers.com/rituals/main.asp Hope this helps, Mani ------------------------ Yahoo!
