SrI: SrI VaDapathra SaayinE Nama: Akshaya ThrithIyai, the third day after AmAvAsyai of VaikAsi Month is celebrated as PuNya Kaalam. On this day , people start new activities .It is the general belief that good deeds done this day will multiply many folds as PuNYams . Some make new purchases on this day. It is considered the day of birth of ThrEthA Yugam , a very auspicious yugam unlike Kali yugam with Kali dhOsham. It is also considered as the avathAra dinam of ParasurAmar or RoshA Raamar. The Akshaya part of Akshaya ThrithIyai has profound implications as well. Akshaya means eternal or imperishable. There are two trees that are sacred to AasthikAs : Akshaya VaDa Vruksham and Asvattha Vruksham. Akshaya Vruksham is the Banyan tree (Ficus Indica)and Asvattha Vruksham is the peepul tree(Ficus religioso). Akshaya Vruksham is the symbol of creation (Brahma). DakshiNA Moorthy Sivan sits under this tree and instructs the four Rishis about the greatness of VishNU NaarAyaNan according to Mudal AzhwArs. An Akshaya tree is at ThrivENi sangamam at Allahabad , a holy sangamam of three rivers (Ganga, Sarasvathi and YamunA) , where VENi Maadhavan is worshipped . He is there in the form of a Akshaya Tree at Allahabad. At VaaraNAsi , where Lord SivA utters Raama Taaraka Manthram during the last moments of one's life to prepare the Jeevan for Moksham , there is also a Akshaya Tree. At GayA , there is a VishNu Paadaham at the ancient Akshaya tree. VaranAsi, Gayaa, PrayAg all have the sacred Akshaya tree. They are known as Urdhva Moola Akshaya , Aadhi Moola Akshaya and PoorNa Akshaya Vrukshams respectively. In our traditions , Urdhava Moolam , Aadhi Moolam and PoorNam have Smruthi , PurANa and Upanishadic significance that will take us deeper into discussion. The connection of Akshaya Vruksham , Pithru Tarpanam are also a seperate track to reflect upon.PraLayam and the Lord reclining on Banyan leaf as VaDa Pathra Saayee ( Kutti KaNNan) has another rich track to reflect on with AzhwAr Paasurams ( Ulaham UNDu Umizhintha Maayan). In short, there is a multifacted significance regarding the day of Akshaya ThrithIyai , a PuNya Kaalam earmarked for recieving manthrOpadEsam or start some thing auspicious. Joyous Akshaya ThriThIyaa day to You all ! NamO NaarAyaNAya ! V.Sadagopan ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ---------------------~--> Buy Stock for $4 and no minimums.
