Dear Huesken: According to the Apastamba Sutra "At the new moon, he (the student)shall not study for two days and two nights" According to Manu Smriti Chapter 4 Code 14, "The new-moon day destroys the teacher, the fourteenth (day) the pupil, the eighth and the full-moon days (of each half month) (destroy all remembrance of) the Veda; let him therefore avoid (reading on) those (days)." >>>> My current adhyapaka (teacher) does not conduct veda class on Amavasya (New Moon), Poornima (Fullmoon), Prathamai (The first day of the lunar fortnight), Ashtami (The eight day of the lunar fortnight). There is also no class on some important festival days like Yugaadi (traditional New Year), Acharya's Jayanthi (Birthday) and days when tarpanam is to be be performed by eligible students. Hope this helps, -Shreyas __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - your guide to health and wellness http://health.yahoo.com ------------------------ Yahoo!
