Dear Sirs, The Vedas are the outbreath of Sriman Narayana. They are direct revelation from God. There is no question of disputing God's injunction. The Vedic injunction is that men should chant the Vedas. Either you believe in the Vedas or you don't. We cannot twist and turn the Sastric statements to suit our fancies. Just because today there is current of liberalism prevelant in the air, it does not imply that God's injunction can be changed to suit today's "liberal" atmosphere. If you don't like the commandments of the Sastras, then don't follow the Vedic religion. Just become an atheist and do whatever you feel like doing. Every man is free to do whatever he wants. There is no compulsion here. - rohit [ Does it unequivocally say in the Veda mUla itself that women should not chant it? From what I understand this rule is documented in the smritis, and not in the Veda itself. Please document this otherwise, and let's not just have a back and forth about liberal vs. conservative, modernism vs. traditionalism, etc. That's not very useful. -- Moderator ] ------------------------ Yahoo!
