It is obvious that the vedas have universal appeal. Social Standards adopted and practised over centuries are lower in precedence towards to adhyAtma(spiritual) thoughts in the vedas. Sometime ago a members (Sri Rajesh Pillai) posted a query that since he is not a brahmanaa by birth, it is ok for him to conduct and independent study of the vedAs. In my reckoning, it is fabulous. I garner support from the fact the Nammalwar who far exceeds the highest vedic authority preached the essence of the vedas. We really are getting into the ambit of social hierarchy when it comes to the present time where the popluar media, neo-hindu and neo-vedantic sects sometimes give their own explanations of the intricacies that were present during the times of Maitreyi, Ramanuja et al. Traditions evolve very slowly, if not die out. The messages in the vedas are universal in nature. But one should not purse their studies with an impure heart and mind for acheiving ulterior motives. It is paramount that the studies of vedas should be guided by experienced people. We have technology at our disposal where we are now able to discuss with each other and enrich our thoughts and prespectives on the vedas. Such cross fertilization is indeed good. The thoughts in the vedas are not the thoughts of single rishis alone. They are the thoughts of one of the greatest CIVILIZATIONS of mankind.
