Regarding the abhivAdana itself, it is probably to avoid unintended discrimination and disrespect that our acharyas have recommended that after samaasrayanam a simple 'aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan' is enough, instead of a full abhivAdana. Further, the self-description in the abhivAdana refers to one's gotra, varNa, etc., which signify material connections. Why not describe oneself in a manner befitting one's svarUpa? There is a sloka from itihAsa samuccaya, 'ekAnti vyapadeshTavyo naiva grAma-kulAdhibhiH...' that mentions this principle. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, Mani ------------------------ Yahoo!
