Avani Avittam - Yajur Upakarma
From the Bhakti List Archives

Dear Prapatti Group Members: This year's Avani-Avittam festival falls on the 17th of August (according to NY temple which corrects it for North America). The Indian Panchangam and the Pittsburgh calendar mentions it as falling on 18th. On this day, you are expected (minimum) to change your poonool and perform the KAndarishi tarpanam. If you have the convenience you can perform the upAkarma homam followed by adhyayanam (at least 4 anuvAkams from Yajush shAkA). If any of you require a Yagnyopaveetham (Iyengar - Poonool) and/or Thirunarayanapuram Thiruman/Srichoornam, kindly let me know with details of your mailing address. I will be happy to send them to you along with instructions (in Sanskrit) for performing the UpAkarma function. I intend to collect a token charge which I would disburse it to needy projects in India. Vijayaraghavan Srinivasan
