karmA and God: more thoughts

Dear Members, Veebhisana saranAgathy and karnA's tragic end are very good examples to consider. Though born into a rAkshasa family, Veebhisana advised his brother Ravana to mend his ways and surrender to Sri Rama. When Ravana refused he promptly took the right decision and surrendered to Rama. We know the rest of the story. On the contrary, the philanthropical KarnA chose to stay and fight on the side of DuryOdhanA despite being fully aware that he was aiding the evil. He chose gratitude over righteousness and perished. They both chose exactly opposite paths that were contrary to their true nature and were rewarded appropriately. I guess this is probably what is referred by the Tamil saying, "vidhiyai mathiyaal vella mudiyum" - roughly translated as "destiny can be altered (by mind)". Here mathi or mind does not mean just "intelligence" but using one's intellect to make the "right" choice. -aDiyEn, Sriram -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Group Home: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bhakti-list Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
