Amala means "spotless" or "pure," and is a defining characteristic of Brahman, the ultimate reality. This indicates Brahman's absolute freedom from all imperfections, limitations, and impurities.

This is emphasized to show that Brahman is not subject to any of the qualities that are associated with the material world, nor with the karmic restrictions of the jiva.
