              ANNOUNCEMENT and INVITATION
    Sri Manavaala Maamunigal Tirunakshatram Celebration
Shiva-Vishnu Temple Festival, Livermore, California, USA
                November 13-14, 1999
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sri Manavaala Maamunigal (1371-1443) is one of the greatest and
best loved philosopher-saints of south India. He is one of the
principal acharyas of Sri Vaishnavism, the religious and
philosophical tradition propagated by Sri Ramanujacharya. Sri
Manavaala Maamunigal is credited with the revitalization of
temple-based religion that occurred in the 15th century, as well
as with the spreading of Sri Ramanuja's egalitarian philosophy of
bhakti and service (kainkarya) among the masses.

Maamunigal, as he is popularly remembered, is also known by the
name "Sundara Jaamaatr Muni". As a testament to his vast
erudition and tireless service of God and His devotees, his name
finds mention both in the Venkatesa Prapatti and the Venkatesa
Mangalam, two hymns which are recited daily in front of Lord
Venkateswara at Tirupati and at our temple.

We will be celebrating the Tirunakshatram of this great acharya
on November 13, commencing with Suprabhata Sevai for Lord
Venkateswara, followed by Tirumanjanam and the annual Pushpa Yaga.
A series of talks highlighting the life of this great saint
and other aspects of our religious tradition will be featured
along with music and dance performances, as well as recitation
of selections from Vedas, Divya Prabandham, and Maamunigal's
Sri Suktis on the 13th afternoon and 14th morning. The event
will conclude on the 14th with a Kalyaana Utsavam.

On behalf of the Shiva-Vishnu Temple, we extends an invitation to
everyone to join in this two day celebration. Your participation
will be greatly appreciated.

A detailed agenda for the event will be published soon. For more
