Tomorrow 9/4/97 is the Thirunakshatram of Srimate Srivan Satakopa Sri Vedanta Desika Yateendra Mahadesikan, the 44th Jeer of Sri Ahobila Mutt. He led Sri Ahobila Muth from 1957 to 1992. By 1982 he had given Samashrayam and Prapatti to over 25,000 disciples. Exact figure of the number of His disciples is not available. His avatara and work have been described in about 20 verses by the present Jeer in His Purvashramam. He describes the Acharya known for His hot temper as "Shantha swaroopam". How does this fit with His known temperament? Well Shastras describe Himsa and ahimsa relating to whether an action leads one towards or away from Sriman Narayana. Any action that takes us towards Sriman Narayana and consequently away from Maya is considered ahimsa and vice versa. When such a Mahan yells at a disciple, sins accumulated over thousands of lifetimes are burned to ashes, and the disciple makes rapid progress towards moksha. This was why the present Jeer described Him as Shanta swaroopa. Only one cassette called Saranagathi Vaibhavam is available out His numberless kalakshepams. However 32 of His articles in Nrsimha Priya are published in a book. This book is a masterpiece and simply by reading it one gets peace of mind and tranquility, comes to know the essence of all shastras without having to read the more detailed books, and can direct communion with Sriman Narayana during the time one is reading this book. His other book is a commentary on the Thiruppavai and is also a masterpiece. In this book, He relates each Pasuram that other experts have connected with various avatarams, to Krishna avataram only. This book is currently out of print, but is expected to come out again when published by the Visishtadvaita Research Centre Madras. The former book Srimad Azhagiya Singarin amudumozhigal is available for a price of $15.00 from Sri Ahobila Muth 5 Pissaro Court Gaithersburg Md 20878. Jaganath.
