Jai Sriman Narayana. Yes there is a story of a devotee named Sri Hatiram Baba (Bavaji) who was madly in Love with Lord Srinivasa. It seems that every night, Lord Srinivasa used to go to his place and play dice with him. Once it so happened that the crown (I think) of the Lord was stolen and it appeared in Sri Bavaji's place. So the king got him arrested and he was put in prison. His punishment was that a huge pile of sugarcane sticks were put in his cell and he was asked to finish them off by the next morning. It seems that the Lord came in the form of an elephant and ate them all. Everybody could then take notice of Sri Bavaji's devotion to the Lord and the Lord's love for His devotee. This is what I roughly remember. This story was also depicted in a very nice Telugu movie called Sri VenkatESwara MahAtmyam.
