"Visrujya Lajyaam" - without shyness!

"Visrujya lajjãm yodiite Mannãmãni nirantaram" - this sloka is 
chanted by Bhãgavatas. 

This purãna slokam says that one should perform Nãmasankirtanam 
without shyness or embarrassment. 

But is this not a "purãna slokam" (ancient sloka)?  Does this mean 
that even in ancient days there were people who hesitated (due to 
shyness) to perform Nãmasankirtanam?

Answer:

Nobody has said, 
a. do dhyana without any embarrassment, 
b. perform dharma `anushtãnãs' without any embarrassment, 
c. do yoga without any embarrassment, OR
d. do Vedanta vichãra without any embarrassment.' 

Why then say, `do Nãmasankirtanam without any embarrassment?' Why 
such an advice for performance of Nãmasankirtan alone? 

There is no doubt that, those who have become `patiita' 
and `brashta'(those who have spent a wayward life) are 
not `adhikãriis' (deserving candidates) for the other mãrgas. 

But however, even they are `adhikãriis' for Bhagavan Nãmakirtanam! 

If they are told, "you also have a way out(gati), you can cross this 
ocean of samsãra through Bhagavan Nãmakirtanam, or Bhagavan Nãma will 
purify you" they might hesitate saying thus:
"Can we, who have committed innumerable sins, utter the pavitra(pure) 
Bhagavan Nãma? "

So, the "bhãvãrta" (the true import) of this sloka is that, one need 
not hesitate or feel shy on these grounds. Just shake away this 
inhibition & shyness and perform Kirtanam boldly and joyfully!
