Contemplating on Kutti KaNNan on SrI JayanthI

SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:
Dearest Srivaishnavas,

On this most auspicious Sri JayanthI day- on the day our Kutti KaNNan 
appeared, let us pray to His (small) Lotus Feet.. contemplating on Him, 
briefly enjoy Gopala vimsathy.

He is not only a cowherd Boy of BrindhAvan, the darling boy of Gopikas; but 
the ParamAthmA - ParandhAman- showing His Parathva qualities many times 
(Govardhanagiri, KaaLinganardhanam, Poothanai, .. etc..)
The second sloka (vaachamnijAnkha rasikhAm..) contains the Gopala manthra, 
it is told, which is said to be highly effective.

The various pranks of Gopala are portrayed in the slokas- the infant 
suckling the milk and life of Poothanai, the pseudo mother; the dancing 
child for a handful of butter; the termbling boy before the angry mother for 
having stolen the butter; the crawling child dragging the mortar and passing 
through the twofold trees; the water sport in the waters of YamunA with Gopa 
girls; playing on the flute with the girls keeping rhythm with their hands; 
the naughty boy stealing the clothes of small girls (who went into the bathe 
naked in the river YamunA) kept on the bank and making them beg joining 
their palms in anjali to get their garments instead of their beseeching him 
to return them.

The beauty of the dark blue hued cloud like body and the auspicious nature 
of the qualities of Sri Krishna (Gopala, the cowherd boy) are captivating 
enough. The charm is enhanced by the lovely flute held by the lotus like 
hands near the rosy lips and the multi coloured plumes of the peacock on His 
head. Even the immemorial Vedas with infinitie knowledge fail to describe 
Him and His beauty fully since they are beyond description in words and teh 
reach of mind.

Swamy Desikan is charmed by the beauty of this Gopala and with love and 
devotion prays that He must be in his heart always and bless him with His 
vision even at the time of his final departure from this mortal world.

[adharAhitha chAru vamsa naaLA
makuTalambi mayUra pinchamaalaa
harineela shilavibhanganeelA
prathibAsanthu mama anthima prayaaNe..- sloka 12]

{this is somewhat similar to appOdhaikku ippOdhE solli vaitthEn.. of 
PeriyAzhwAr and krishNatwadeeya padha pankaja.. of Kulasekara AzhwAr's 
Mukunda mala}

The words of the last sloka are excellent and significant. Swamy Desikan 
himself pays a compliment to the composition that it is sthuthi par 
excellence which defies the adiition of any attribute. He says that he 
composed this with a mind free from any other thought. He declares that a 
mere reading /reciting this sthOthra will bless a person with the direct 
vision of the Flute loving Lord who is the beloved of the young Gopa girls 
of BrindhAvan.

aDiyEn's prayer on this day for more publication of Srimad Bhagawatha 
commentary written by Srivaishnava scholars and Acharyas, in easy to read 
Tamil and English: No doubt AzhwAr's works/ anubhavams are grander and they 
are adequate. But parrot eaten fruit (Sage Sukabrahmam's) must be sweet too.

I had read this from one of SrI Anand Karalapakkam's posts:
  Finally, adiyEn would like to enlist the various sanskrit commentries
by Sri Vaishnava AchAryAs on Srimad BhAgavatham :

a. A commentry attributed to Sri Krishna Guru , disciple of
Sri SomayAji AndAn (pre Desikan period) .

b. Commentry known as "SukhapakshyA" by the stAlwart Sudarsana
sUri of "SrutaprakAsikA" fame .

c. "BhAgavatha tAtparya chandrikA " by Sri Venkata KrishnamAchAryA
( probably late 18th Century )

d. The latest commenty is "VeerarAghaveeyam" by VeerarAghavAchAryA
and is the popular one in use by vidvAns.

e. Ongoing tamil series in Nrusimha PriyA is also there as a
reference.

Most probably, the commentries a,b, and c are in the manuscript
stages itself (ie. not being printed as a book). Everyone should
seriously consider helping the publishing of the sanskrit
commentries of our poorvAchAryAs which are simply still present
as manuscripts. Many Nectar among nectars are being neglected
somehow. The bhagavad anubhavam obtained from AzhwAr's Divya
Prabandham is more than thousand times the bhagavad anubhavam
that one can possibly obtained from Srimad BhAgavatham . So ,
this granthA is not given that much importance in our sampradAyam,
as it is given in other vaishnava sampradAyams. Also , Vishnu
purAnam is much superior to Srimad BhAgavatham while explaining
tattvAs (very crucial to interpret many Upanishadic passages ).
SarIra sarIrI bhAvA , nArAyanA tattvam , Sri tattvam etc are well
explained and established in Sri Vishnu purAnam . Moreover , it is
much shorter than Srimad BhAgavatham, though containing almost the
same thing. Infact Srimad BhAgavatham of vyAsar is the expansion of
Sri Vishnu PurAnam of his father ParAsarar.

Neverthless, Srimad BhAgavatham is another nectar & invaluable
commentries of our most merciful AchAryAs should be made available
to everyone so that the "correct tattvam", without any confusion
is understood by all the interested baddha jIvAtmAs.
