SrI: SrImathe Ramanujaya namah: Dear Smt Sheela Belur, adiyEn's praNAmams. What you said is 100 percent true. Srivaishnavas (ParamaikAnthins) ned not worry or fear about anything at all. Once surrendered to Sriya: Pathi, worrying about anything (be it this life or the SrivaikUNta life), is lacking in unconditional faith in Him. No difference of opinion at all. BUT..:-) A srivaishnavan is one who feels, "aiyO" ;takes pity on; who empathsies with; for the suffering. One who is a vaishnav- who Knows the pain of others and (Par-dukhkhe upkaar kare toye) does good to others, esp. to those ones who are in misery. What that burstsout in Srivaishnava is to pray to his Lord for showerring His grace on the suffering.. One amy argue that the Lord knows what to give them and it is their karmA/ fate etc.. A Srivaishnava scholar may also be aware of the same. But feeling for the suffering is a different attribute. On the same token, though not 100 % identical, for comparson' sake: This is similar to taking an umbrella or covering with a cloth when the Lord's utsava mUrthi is take on procession on the streets, and is found to be under the direct sun. He is Sarvagnan; equivalent to 1000 Suns (why should one cover Him with the umbrella?.should not be the attitude. aiO! en appan mEl veiyil padarathE.. should be the outburst) On the same token, the feeling for others' misery and suffering and prayers to the Lord for saving them too. adiyEn's view point. I may be wrong. (not uncommon) Please forgive me for errors and indulgence. Does not Perumal know what is good for us and the mankind at large...? Does He have to be reminded to do His duty? I can understand such thoughts of praying for a material cause if it comes of from a group of people who are NOT into "Shrivaishnavism"... I am, to a certain extent, sort of surprised at these coming from a Shrivaishnava group such as this... Alwars and PurvAcharyAs have time and again said the "real fear" should be of the "samsAra" and the only way to get rid of that fear is to "surrender" to Him (thru ofcourse the grace of an Acharya) in order to release onself from this "samsAra sAgaram ghOram ..anantha klEsha bhAjanam"...I have heard in kAlakshepams that learned elders request Perumal saying "please do not make me an object for your 'leelai' (meaning in Leela vibhoothi) but an object for your 'kainkaryam' (meaning in Nithya vibhoothi)". Time and again we listen to kAlakshepams where they say that as long as we live in this samsAra, every chEtana HAS to undergo fear one kind or the other (janma , mrthyu, jara ,vyadhi bhayam...) and there is no escape..the only escape is when , by His grace and Acharya sambhandham, we come out of this cycle of births.. This being the case, praying to Perumal to relieve us of fear in this world is something that does not seem to be a real "Shrivaishnava" thought or action... Please pardon me if I have said anything wrong... rAmAnuja dAsi -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
