re:keeping our tradition alive

From the Bhakti List Archives

Dear Members,

Further to the excellent posts from many experienced Bhagavathas on the
subject, I wish to add that, in whatever ways and means we plan to address
the issue, we should all be cognizant of one important point. FOCUS. Yes,
there are so many things to do, and miles to go, but we should remember that
the best way to get there is a-mile- at-a-time. I say this, not because I
heard it from a catchy commercial, but to really stress the need to maintain
our focus on one job at a time, and do it well. It could be building more
vEdic schools or renovating dilapidated temples, or facilitating more
meaningful discourses - all of us should concentrate on one task at a time
for a while and streamline it. Everything needs to be addressed and one is
not necessarily more important than the other. But, we have to pool our
resources to tackle them systematically - one by one - lest we spread our
efforts thin.

In an earlier note on the topic, I remarked that our achAryAs are not for
the "numbers game". After reading some of the recent posts on the subject,
it appears I might not have explained it clearly.

I wrote that sentence to imply that, our achAryAs do not twist facts, to
please the crowd, and increase the followers. And I wrote it to explain the
mass appeal of some pseudo-gurus, despite lack of material truth or
philosophic depth in their preaching. Not to mean we should be oblivious to
dwindling followers of Sri Vaishnavam.

Dear Sri RR, MGV and KL: I understand that your posts were not meant to
attack my opinion, but I just felt I should clarify.

Reverently,
Sriram
