Sama upakarma is usually performed on BHADRAPADA Hastam day, around Ganesh
Chaturti. Because of (dosham) Sevvai mutam (Mars), this year the Prathama Sama
UpaakarmA falls on Oct'02 in Purattasi (kanya masam) Hastham nakshatram (as per
Sri Ranganatha Paduka, Aug 2002 issue- page 71).
This is for the first time doers . For all others, the upAkarma is today (was
yesterday for some).
