Though some families have something known as a kula-daiva
this is not universal and actually is quite rare among
Sri Vaishnavas, compared to other brahmin groups such as
the smArtas and those of other communities. Some Sri Vaishnavas
will adopt as kula-daiva that deity who presides in their
ancestral village or their current residential location.
Recent migrants to Triplicane will consider Sri Parthasarathy
Swami as their "special" daiva and will naturally have special
affection for Him. However, for smArtas and other communities,
certain activities and rituals *must* be done in the presence
of their kula-daiva. This is rare among Sri Vaishnavas.

Generally, Sri Vaishnavas consider Lord Srinivasa of Tirupati
their universal kula-daivam since Periyalvar has addressed
Venkatanatha as 'en kula-deyvamE' in the concluding set of
ten verses of his tirumozhi.
