Dear SrI Sudarshan:

The Sri VidyA RaajagOpAla Swamy presides over
the abhimAna sthalam of RAAJA MANNAARGUDI.
This is to be distinguished from Kaaattu MannArgudi,
the birth place of two of the greatest VaishNava AchAryAs:
Swamy Naathamuni and HIs grandson , Swamy AaLavanthAr.

Raaja mannArgudi temple is big; the temple tank
HaridhrA nadhi is big. The festivals are big;
the float festival and the Naathaswara cutchEri
is big. Great vidvAns rendered apoorva raagams like
Hamsa Bramari during those float festivals for the listening
pleasure of SrI RaajagOpAla PerumAL and Sengamalavalli
ThAyAr.SrI MutthuswAmi Dikshithar has composed number
of Krithis on this DakshiNa DhwArakai dhivya desam .
BrahmOthsavam takes place for 18 days.
Panchamukha HanumAn vAhanam is unique here.
"MannArgudi Mathil Azhagu " is the famous saying.
The temple ramparts were built by KulOtthunga
ChOzhan ( 1070-1120 C.E).Gudi in Telegu means Temple.
MannArgudi is the temple of the king of MannArs (gOpAs).

The ArchA Moorthy is a Svayambhu (self-manifested ).
There is a SrI VidhyA Yanthram under the ArchA Moorthy
and that is why He is called SrI VidhyA RaajagOpAlan.
This SrI VidhyA yanthram is not the one used by
UpaasakAs of ShOdasi manthram aimed at SrI LalithA.
It is SrI Chakram of MahA Lakshmi. She gives us the
VidhyA Balam as well as the succor and support for
Her Lord . SanthAna GopAla archai is one of the most
bewitching Moothys here .

There is a special web site for MannArgudi , which has
huge amounts of information on this temple. You will
also find there a wonderful dialog on the duties of
women (Sthree Dharmama) in VaishNavite households
in olden (golden) times.

All in all , there is a wealth of information about
MannArgudi that you will enjoy at the URL:

http://www.templenet.com/Tamilnadu/rajamann.html
http://in.geocities.com/mannarguditown/homepage.html

Brest wishes,
V.Sadagopan
