Dear Smt. Gita / Vaidhehi / Nappinnai:
There are few theories for your question.
1. Perumal first, stands as an example, to
show us as a Sri Vaishnava, hence he sports
Thiruman Sri Choornam. [Lets avoid the common
term "NamAm" and refer this with reverence as
Thiruman and Sri Choornam or Urdhva Pundaram only].
2. Sriya:Pathi Sriman Narayanan, in his unending
karunyam and sowlabhyam, wanted to have
"Samasrayanam" done on him by Bhagavad Ramanuja
and came in the form on a boy and had Pancha Samskaram
done by none other than the greatest Acharya.
Hence, as one undergone Pancha Samskaram, Perumal
sports Thiruman and Sri Choornam.
However, it is generally referred that in Sri Vaikuntam
Perumal as Para Vasudevan sports Kasturi Thilakam, while
His Archa Thirumeni sports Urdhva Pundaram.
Hope this 2 cents worth sharing by AdiyEn dispels your
Doubts.

Subject: [sv-rituals] Significance of NAmam
Dear All,
I am gita(alias vaidhehi/nappinnai)already introduced
myself from my other acc(nappinnai_nc@y...). My fundamental doubt is:
Why should PerumAL wear His own feet on His forehead(or rather why
should we put nAmam on Him)? Can anyone clarify my doubt?
NAmam(be it Thenkalai/Vadakalai) basically represents:white lines-
PerumAL's pAdam & red/yellow line - Sri.
