Dear Bhagavatas: So far as my understanding goes, the entire Sandhyavandanam Mantras are of Vedic origin -- not merely Gayatri. Of all the Mantras, Gayatri is said to be the mother of all Chandas. It is not correct to say that only GAyatri and Ashtaksharam are of Vedic origin. The Dvaya Mantram, for example, is said to have been taken from mantras occurring in two different contexts in the Katha Upanishad, which is very much a part of the Vedas-in fact, hailed as Veda Siras.
