Dear bAgawthAs, this is in sequence to Sri varadhan's post two weeks ago on this project. We are attempting to present the vaibavam of our beloved Sri Sudarsanam iyengar in this and the coming posts. Please stay tuned. bAgwatha kaimkarya rupam adiyEn Sampath Rengarajan ***************************************************************** Sri PuththurSwamigaL's ancestors and his vaibavam - part 2 Among the *ancient* SriVaihsnavas, there are two sArArs or groups known as "poorvasika srivaishnavas and aparasika Srivaishnavas". They are distinguished with the way their sigai or kudumi is dressed up. They are also popularly known as chozhiyars. There are no differences in sampradhAyam amnong these two distinct sections of Srivaishnava bAgwathALs. One of this group of SrivaishnavaLs, tie up their kudumi in front and are popularly known poorvasika srivaishnavaL. Among azwars periyazhwAr, thoNdaradip podi azwar and madura kavi are poorvasika Srivaishnavas. Among poorvacahryars, vyAkyAna chakravarthy periya vAchchAn pillai, Vishnuchiththar who was capable of reciting Sribashayam everyday and also known as engaLAzhwAn are pooravsika SrivaishanavAs. More of these Srivaishnavas resided in chola and pandya kingdom. During 18 th century, a poorvasika Srivaishnava named as Sri Rengaraja iyengar lived in puththur agrahAram, on the southern banks of Srirangam Kuveri. As similar to thoNdar adi podi azhwar, he also had his own nandhavanam here and it was his resolve to prepare a garland for lord Ranganathar by his own hand using the various flowers grown in his own nandavanam (nursery). He was known for this kaimkaryam as pookkArar. Due to his bagwath kaikaryam and his emotional attachment to lord Ranganathar, all the discendants in his family were blessed to be sincere Srivaishnavas. Sri Rengaraja iyengar's grandson Sri Srinivasa iyengar, constructed his own temple in puththur agraharam for Sri Ramar, Sri Krishnar and was a very devout SrivaishnavaL. Sri Srinivasa iyengar's grand son is also Sri Srinivasa iyengar. He had his panchasamskaram under Sri U.Ve. thiru vEnkatAcharya swami. He has excellent profienciency in tamil and sanskrit poetry. He created a trust from his own savings and family funds in 1946, known as Sri Sudarsana trust, and he started a monthly journal in 1948 known as srivaishnava sudarsanam. His son is currenlty known as Sri Sudarshanam iyenagar and he is running the monthly journal and the press currently. He is an advocate by profession. He is very knowledgeable in tamil poetry and sanskrit poetry as well. He served as an advocate for Srivaishnavam itself as he argued and proved his prathi vAthis wrong each time they falsify our sidhantham through their journal. Sri Krishnaswamy iyengar had his samAsrayEnam in his bAlyam itself at the feet of Srimath paramhamsa pundareekAksha Ramanuja Jeer. He learnt the sAshtra pramAnam and Swami vedantha desikan's grantham at the feet of Sri u.ve. kozhiyAlam Ranganth aacharyar. He has also learnt the sampradhayam at the feet of various others such as Sri U.Ve.Sri Kanchi thirumalai eechambAdi Srinivasa ragavacharyar, kAarapangadu mahavidhvan venkatacharya swami, vELukkudi varadhacharya swami, kovil sadhabishekam govinda narasimAcharya swami.
