Mrs Satyen has correctly pointed how the system of swayamacharya
works. I had just a couple of comments.
(1) The question was posed by Krish Praba.
(2) 72 people whom Ramanujacharya gave Samashrayam to after he
invited everybody from a temple rooftop, were instructed to preach
and give samAshrayam, bharanyasam to others. Descendents of these 72
people form todays swayamacharya families.
They range in practice from people who are in everyway as strict as
Muth Acharyas and their immediate associates, to the other extreme.
