I can pass on bare knowledge. While a young boy below teens, in the 1940's
I had come in contact with Thirupathy family involve in V vs T case
with regards to Tirupathi Temple. I think it started in late 1800's or
early 1900's and went to the Privy Council It was reagrding the
morning service- Sree Saila Dayapatram, an invocation to Desikha.
Alos U and Y Namas were questioned. The ruling was in favor
Y's and my friends lost ( or paid their share or lost privileges,
 aTamarappu family  ).
I think there is a Ph.D. thesis from U of Pa by a student ( AMERICAN?).
She is now teaching in Ohio.
You may find the reference in Many Ramayanas.
I will see if I can get the details. I copied some of the pages from
Fort St. George( Madras ) Gazette, a few years ago when I was there.
The facilities were poor annd place stank, so I could not pusue it.
Hope to do so in coming years.
