Sri SrimathE rAmAnujAya namaha SrimathE nigamAntha mahadesikAya namaha jnAna-karma-AtmikE-nIshtE yOgalakshyE susamskrute | AatmanubhUtisiddhyaRthE pUrvashatkEna chOdite || (Verse 2) In the first aggregate of six are laid down(for practice) the two well established positions, i.e knowledge (JnAna Yoga) and sastraic action (Karma Yoga) which have for their aim the attainment of Yoga, contact with the self, through which they produce the realisaiton of one's own self. "Nishtha" - a permanent position - state of of strady occupation by a person, or steady application of a person to a certain upAya till the attainment of the object. Yoga (contact) is obtained through karma yoga and through jnAna yoga. this is the means of Atma-Avalokona (Realisation of the self), i.e seeing the self face to face is to be obtained by fixing the mind on the Atman. "Susamskrte" - Well performed, i.e with the knowledge that all that is for the delectation of the lord and under his command or guidance. "Atma Anubhuti Siddhyarthe" - For the purpose of realising Atman - own self which is higher than the pleasures of senses, and some thing more precious - the realisation of the Atman - the prime cause for generating aversion for anything else. "chodite" - Prescribed for being practised. Thus by this sloka it is said that in the first six Adhyayas we are taught all about the jeeva and the means to be followed to attain salvation. (Next: Verse 3) Regards, Adiyen Ramanuja Dasan, Malolan Cadambi [ To be exact, Sri Krishna does not detail the exact means to be followed for moksha in the first six chapters. As Bhagavad Yamuna and Ramanuja detail, this set of six chapters details karma- and jnana-yoga and the nature of the individual self, as well as the yoga of meditation in general. Sri Krishna does not detail bhakti-yoga, which is the actual means of attaining moksha, until the second set of six chapters. -- Moderator ] -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Group Home: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bhakti-list Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
