Srimadh Azhagiya singar thiruvadikaLE saraNam Sri RanganAyikA samEtha Sri RangarAjan thiruvadikaLE saraNam thiru adhyayana sEvai - part 11 - perum ninaivil thERRam arangatthilanRO ! Dear bAgawathAs, kANum AvAvil dhooram nerungiyathO nALum vizhAvil nEram surungiyathO sErum kanAvil bhAram irangiyathO perum ninaivil thERRam arangatthilanRO ! meaning: While we are so eager to see the thiru uthsavams of Sri Arangan, it seems the distance between us and Sriranga kshEthram began to reduce and the proximity become closer. While there are so many number of days yet to come for the festivals to occur, it seems the dimension of time started to shrink rapidly and one would feel as if the thiru vizhA is going to happen now as all things are set, ready to go. Since one is dreaming of joining the many sEvArtthis to enjoy Sri Arangan in HIS ursavam, the "sumai" of having not seen such a beauty is now unloaded on hearing all these. In one's mind the constant chinthana keeps growing and growing on Sri Arangam as they hear more and more about Sri Arangan. Chithrai festivals (contd..) Viruppan thiru nAL (contd..) On the return of our Sri viswakshEnar to the temple "Sri garuda prathistA" is done. The picture of Sri garuda is printed on a canvas and consecrated with appropriate mantras and kept in Sri Alagiya manavAlan thiru mantapam. The garuda dwaja is made readu for hoisting on the dhwajasthambA the next day. The dhvaja rOhanam is celebrated by ceremoniously carying the dhvaja on a plank along the chithra veethi and brought back and kept near the dvajasthambam. Sri namperumAL is present near the balipeedam and dwajasthambam and prayers are offered to HIM. The aruLappAdu for the flag hoisting is given by a priest, by saying on behalf of Lord as, "parO". Another priest standing above the terrace near the opening of the dwajasthambam draws up the dvaja and ties it to the top of the staff. On the same evening, bhErithAtanam or beating of the drum festival is celebrated in front of Lord and his two nAcchiyArs. Prayers are performed to the Lord and as well the bhEri in the azhagiya manavala mandapam. The slokas of bhErithatanam are recited. The purpose of this festival is to invite the digbAlAs for the brahmOthsavam. 3 beats of drum follow each slokam. Sri namperumAL and nAcchiyAr are then taken around chitra veedhi. Sri namperumAL leads the nAcchiyArs back to garba gruham and then goes alone to the yAga sAlai. HE is offered with a thiru manchanam, prayers and prasAdhams. Ghee is offerred to the pancha kunda hOmam. Then Lord performs yAhtradhAanam and makes yAthra sankalpam at the mandapam near the garbh gruham. HE then visits kaNNAdi aRai or mirror room at the end of the first day.
