======================================================= MahAnArAyaNOpanishat - manthra - 11 ======================================================= na sandrshE thishTathi rUpamasya na chakshushA pashyathi kashchanynam hrdA manIshA manasAbhi klrpthO ya Enam viduramrthAsthE bhavanthi || 11 || Translation: His form does not stand for being perceived. No one can see Him with one's eyes. He is graspable by the mind full of devotion and steadfastness. Those who know Him thus become immortal. Notes: This manthra is found with some modification in (Shwe - Up 3-13, 4-17, 4-20 and in katha 6-9). 'rUpam' means auspicious form. His form is not possible of being seen with one's eyes. So, one cannot perceive Him with sense organs like the eye and others. 'hrdi' means bhakti. 'manIshA' means steadfastness. 'manasABhi klrpthAh' means 'manOgrAhyaha'. In the Mahabharatha the later part of the manthra is given as - 'BhakthyA cha DhrthyA cha samAhithAthmA j~nAnasvarUpam paripashyathIha' The BhAshyakAra explains the meaning of this in 'Vedartha sangraha' as follows - ' DhrthyA samAhithAthmA BhakthyA purushOththamam pashyathi sAkshAthkarOthi, prApnOthi ithyarTha:' 'ShruthaprakAshikAchArya' refers to this manthra in 'sarvathra prasiDhyaDhikaraNa'. This is of the same meaning as 'BhaktyAthvananyayA shakya:' and this is expounded in Vedartha sangraha by Ramanuja. 'na santhishTathi' - does not stand firmly before. The auspicious form is visible in vibhavAvathAra, but the 'aprAkrthathvAkAra' is not seen. 'manIshA' means the Lord of the mind i.e. 'buddhi'. 'manIshA' is 'shAstrajanya shravaNajanya DhI: Dhairya garBhOdvahA Dhrthi:' (VishNu purAnam 5-2) Bhakthi, which is called 'hrdA', is 'prEma' or love towards the Lord. ======================================================= Sri Ranganatha Divyamani Padukabhyam Namaha dasan, Balaji
