IT might be a purificatory ritual. I have also heard that during an
eclipse that pregnent women should remain indoors and not see the sun.
I have heard that this precaution has some scientific explaination as well-
that is- harmful cosmic rays are more incident on the earth during an
eclipse that might harm the fetus.
