Dear Bhagavathas, Sri Ramapriya asked a question if gothra refers to lineage, then how come it changes for the female upon marriage. Perhaps a perfect anology to this is the so called Last Name. It remains same for the male, but changes for the female upon marriage. Even if the mother retains original last name, for children, the last name generally assumes that of the father. I guess it is something to do with male domination. They made all the rules. In fact mother(Prakriti) is a fact and father (Purusha) is faith. dAsan K.
