Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,
This is just to remind that the naamaa reference number what I am using in my posts are based on Sri Bhattar's bhashyam book which I am referring.
Between sri sankara and sri bhattar the first 50 naamaas have same numbers, the naamaas 900 to 1000 have same numbers. In between there is a variation in the increasing order upto 6 numbers upto 800th naama in Sri Bhattar's bhaashyamthan sri sankara's and then reduces to nil in 900. So in case you are referring Sri sankara's bhaashyam, accordingly please refer naamaas a little earlier than the number given here.
In this post, we will see naamaas of sree Vishnu sahasra naamam having the common thread of the word the world or universe or earth - visvam, Bhoomi, lOkam, mahee, dharaNi, vasudhaa etc.
a. First the word - visvam- universe or the world.
1. Om visvasmai nama: [or Om visvaaya nama:] -- naamaa no.1 occurring in slOkam 1
meaning: he whose manifestation is the universe.
2. Om visva karmaNE nama: -- naamaa no. 50 occurring in slOkam 6
meaning: he who does all the work of the universe- the very creator of the universe.
3. Om visvarEthasE nama: -- naamaa no. 89 occurring in slOkam 10
meaning: the prime cause of the universe.
4. Om visva yonayE nama: -- naamaa no.118 occurring in slOkam 13.
Also naamaa no. 151 occurring in slokam 16.
meaning: the womb of this world - who is the total cause for this entire world
[visvasya yOni: - visva yOni]
5. Om visva aathmanE nama: -- naamaa no. 227 occurring in slokam 24
meaning: the very soul of the universe or who pervades the entire universal space.
6. Om visva dhrugE nama: naamaa no. 238 occurring in slokam 26
Meaning: mighty source and supporter of all existence in every being and thing
- Sri bhattar considers this naamaa as visva srut [240] meaning creator of this universe.
7. Om visva bug viBhavE nama: -- naamaa no.241 occurring in slOkam 26
meaning: who pervades all the universe and protects all.
Sri sankara considers viBhavE nama as a separate naamaa and hence this naamaa Om visva BhujE nama meaning- one who swallows the earth during the praLaya the final deluge.
8. Om visva baahavE nama: -- naamaa no. 318 occurring in slOkam 33
meaning: he who has arms for the good of the world.
9. Om visva dhakshiNaaya nama: -- naamaa no.426 occurring in slOkam 45
meaning: one who is well disposed towards earth.
10. Om visva moorthaye nama: -- naamaa no. 722 occurring in slokam 77
meaning: of the form of entire universe, or for whom the whole universe is his body.
b. Lokam - world:
11. Om lOka adhyakshaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 135 occurring in slOkam 15
Meaning: lord who controls the world.
12. Om lOka thraya aasrayaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 620 occurring in slokam 65
meaning: with lakshmi he is resorted to by all beings of all three worlds - shelter for all three worlds.
13. Om loka bandhavE nama: -- naamaa no. 739 occurring in slOkam 78
Meaning: the friend of the world - kin of all beings in the universe.
14. Om lOka naathaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 740 occurring in slOkam 78
meaning: lord and protector of the world.
15. Om loka svaaminE nama: -- naamaa no. 756 occurring in slOkam 80
Meaning: lord of the entire universe.
16. Om lOka saarangaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 789 occurring in slOkam 84
Meaning: the essence behind the universe- of names and forms.
17. Om lOka adhishtaanaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 895 occurring in slOkam 95
Meaning: he who is the support of all the worlds.
18. Om thri lOka aathmanE nama: -- naamaa no. 652 occurring in slokam 69
meaning: one who keeps moving about or travels in all the three worlds,
the soul of all three worlds.
19. Om thri lOka eesaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 653 occurring in slokam 69
meaning: the lord of all the three worlds.
20. Om thri lOka dhrugE nama: -- naamaa 757 occurring in slokam 80
meaning: he who bears all the three worlds.
c. Bhoo - earth [or world ]
21. Om Bhoo garBhaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 71 occurring in slOkam
meaning: the very womb of earth.
22. Om bhuvE nama: -- naamaa no. 472 occurring in slOkam 47
meaning: the earth is he.
23. Om Bhoo sayaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 634 occurring in slOkam 67
Meaning: one who is resting on the earth.
24. Om Bhoo shaNaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 635 occurring in slOkam 67
Meaning: one who adorns the world and all worthy things.
d. Dharani - the earth:
25. Om DharaNi Dharaaya nama: -- naamaa no 237 occurring in slOkam 25
Meaning: the bearer of earth.
26. Om Dharaa Dharaaya nama: -- naamaa no 762 occurring in slOkam 80
Meaning: who lifted and bore the mountain gOvardhana- sole support of earth -
[Dharaa is the name of Bhoo dhEvi- recall Bhoo sooktham ending Dharaa prachOdhayaath.]
e. Mahee - the earth:
27. Om maheedharaaya nama: -- naamaa no 319 occurring in slOkam 33
also naamaa 371 occurring in slokam 36.
Meaning: supporter of earth. [in both naamaas].
Also one who receives all worship of devoted hearts.
28. Om mahee Bharthre nama: -- naamaa no 184 occurring in slOkam 20
Meaning: The bearer of the earth
f. Other words meaning earth or world:
29. Om kuvala eesaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 597 occurring in slOkam 63
meaning: the ruler of earth - ruler of jeevaas.
[ ku vala eesaaya - ku means earth, kuvala means people living in ku]
Monier williams sanskrit dictionary - page 286 col 3 also refers this naama as a name of visNu]
30. Om kshithi eesaaya nama; -- naamaa no. 991 occurring in slOkam 106
Meaning: one who is the lord of the earth.
31. Om kshamaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 442 occurring in slOkam 47
Meaning: he who is competent to bear patiently the responsibility of the entire universe.
[kshama also means earth]
32. Om mEdhinee pathayE nama: -- naamaa no. 533 occurring in slOkam 57
Meaning: the lord of the earth.
33. Om gOvindhaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 189 occurring in slOkam 20.
Also naamaa no. 543 occurring in slOkam 58
meaning: for 189 - the recipient of words of praise.
for 543 - the rescuer of the earth.
[gO - earth, vEdhaas, cows]
34. Om vaasudhEvaaya nama: naamaa no. 334 occurring in slOkam 36
Also naamaa no. 700 occurring in slOkam 74
Also naamaa no. 714 occurring in slOkam 75
Meaning: for 334 -who pervades and sports the universe- one who dwells and revels in the universe
For 700- son of vasudhEva
For 714 - one who presides over the vaasudhEva manthra.
35. Om aDhishtaanaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 326 occurring in slOkam 35
Meaning: the substratum for the entire universe - the supporter koorma when mandhara mountain was used for churning the milk ocean
36. Om adhOkshajaaya nama: naamaa no. 416 occurring in slOkam 45
Meaning: he who remains under both the atmosphere and earth as support for the entire universe.
37. Om jagath aadhi jaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 147 occurring in slOkam 16
Meaning: born at the beginning of [or before] the universe.
38. Om jagatha: sEthavE nama: -- naamaa no.289 occurring in slOkam 31
meaning: the barrier of the universe.
39. Om sarva sahaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 867 occurring in slOkam 92
meaning: he who supports - one who carries the entire universe.
