I totally endorse Mani's views on this topic. The points that some modern researchers make about the timelines of certain parts of the vedas, that some being much newer and some being old etc. are not acceptable in the traditional view point. They might have been written down in different ways but their source is Anaadhi (eternal) The very word "Rishi" is equated to "Mantra Drshta", or one who could see the "mantras" and the "devatas" for those mantras. The vedic mantras are eternal (anaadhi) according to the traditional view. Even views such as caste-system being a later creation are to be negated in the traditional point. Finally, all the dravida compositions have been given Vedic-equal status by Lord himself according to Vaishnavite tradition. They are the Dravida-Vedam (the prabhandams etc.) So they are also eternal verses, being grasped and given to us by our Acharyas, Alwars by their divine powers etc. -- Pradeep -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Group Home: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bhakti-list Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
