Dear BS, Your questions I am looking for the answer to the origin of some scriptures which I understand are part of the Puranas. Yet I do not know for certain which of the Puranas it is refered to. I want to know which of the Puranas contain the Srimad Bhagavatam, which includes the Gita and in which Puranas is the Mahabarata encountered? My points I believe the scriptures that you are refering to is the vedas. The vedas was given by the lord himself. In Srimad Bhagavatham it is stated that tene brahma hrdaya, Brahma was taught the veads by heart by the superene Lord. Vedic knowledge was then passed down thru discpilic succession Eg Brahma sampradaya, Rudra Sampradaya, Sri Sampradaya and Kumara Sampradaya. In Gita Krishna states that he is the source of vedas and from the vedas he is to be known vedais ca savair aham eva vedaah (check the verse from Gita). In the begining of the 4th chapter of Gita Krishna clearly describes these iman vivasvate yogam proktavan ....... In Dwapara yuga, Srila Vyasa complied the vedas. he knew that people in kali yuga are manda sumanda matayo mandah bhagyo hi uparudah or they are living in a miserable condition so the composed the puranas and mahabharata. Even after compling all these he was not happy till he composed the Srimad Bhagavatham. Bhagavatham is called the maha purana. Gita is part of Mahabaratha (canto 10, Bhisma Parva), the dialoge between the Suprme Lord Krishna and arjuna before the commencement of Kurukhestra war. It is the essence of the vedas. mahabaratha is not a purana but it is a ithiasa just like valmiki ramayana. Mahabaratha is also known as the 5th veda. Your Question What is the difference between the Srimad Bhagavatam and the Bhagavata Purana. If you could kindly provide the answer to this question you are thanked in advance. My answer There is no difference between bhagavat Purana and Srimad Bhagavatham. I do hope it helps. I hope other acaryas from this group can give more enlightenment.
