thoo nilA muRRam - part 12  - Other perumALs of thiru kudanthai

Dear bAgawathAs,

	There are  12 "HUGE"  temples  situated in  this city itself
having Sri ArA amudhan as their centre. Though not all those  "HUGE"
temples are Srivaishnava temples,  a list of mainly the SrivaishnavA
temples are presented below. One of   them  is  for  Lord Sri BrahmA
that one cannot see  anywhere  else  in  this  boolOgam  other  than
pushkar. Almost each one of  these huge temples have their own kuLam
or tanks as theertthams in it  or adjacent  to it. That itself is an
indication  of  the  "neer vaLam"  or  fertility of this divya dEsam.

	The other Srivaishnava kshEthrams that are situated in this
holy city of kumbakonam are:
1. Sri Chakra rAja perumAL kOil (built  by  Sooryan  himself) (will
   write in great detail on this later)
2. Sri VaradarAja perumAL kOil
3. Sri Lakshmi nArAyaNa perumAL kOil
4. Sri vEdha nArAyaNa perumAL kOil
(all these are all talked about in some purAnAs)


5. Sri Ramar kOil (will write a separate part on this)
6. Sri navaneetha Krishnan kOil
7. Several AnchanEyar kOils
8. Sri varAha perumAL kOil (thiru kudanthai  dEsikan's  Sri lakshmi
   hayagreevar was here untill a few years ago when adiyen's  uncle
   gave the divya mangaLa vigraham to Sri  Poundrika puram  Andavan
   Ashram in Srirangam)
9. Sri Ramanujar kOil
10. Srilaksmi  nrusimhar  kOil  of  Ahobila  muth   (poorvAchAryA's
    brindhAvanams  are  there  in it.  Our family members are ubaya
    kArALs here for more than a century)
11. Sri thiru mazhisai AzhwAr's brindAvanam


Other notable places are:
1. brahman kOil
2. Sri   RagavEndrar's  (of  Sri  mAdhvAchArya  sampradAyam)   guru
   Sri Suchindrar's brindA vanam.
3. Sri RagavEndra temple
4. Sri Sankara mutt (used to be the head  quarters  for  Sri kAnchi
   sankara mutt untill 60's when  Sri  paramAcharyA  of  Sri kAnchi
   mutt moved back to Sri kAnchi) Several brindAvans  for  previous
   peetAthipathis of kanchi mutt are here in this complex. Some old
   disputes say that this mutt comples originally belonged  to  Sri
   SingEri mutt.
5. mahA maham temple and mahA maham tank are here (will  write  one
   part on this later)

These are just a major few. Several annya devathA temples are there
around Sri Amuthan as  a  prathakshinam.  The  reasons  that  these
details are presented here are such that one must  know  that  this
divya dEsam of Sri ArA Amuthan  attracted  everyone  including  the
AchAryAs of other faiths than Sri VishishtAdvaidam. Our AzhwArs and
AchAryAs delivered  several  pasurams  and  granthams  on  Sri  ArA
amuthan. Both Sri Madhva AchAryAs and  Sri  Sankara  AchAryAs  have
loved  Sri ArA amudhan with a great deal and spent their lives here
and performed several kainkaryams for Sri ArA Amudhan.
