Namaskaram On tue ,4th may 1999 Smt.Lakshmi srinivas wrote that iyengars is a caste appellation of recent times(16th century or so).If that is true then how where our ancestors before the 16th century called?.She also wrote that the terms iyer and iyengars where not used during ramanuja's time then when did people start using the terms iyer and iyengars.I would like to know the origin of iyengars and also how some brahmins came to be known as iyers and some iyengars.Who are suyamacharyas?.Can anyone explain me the concept of suyamacharias? srimathy
