Dear Bhagavathaas,
                               In response to Sri.Mani's question on the
meaning of "Hri" in Sri.Purusha Suktham, it is widely agreed that the
meaning is modesty.  Here is a verse from Sri.Bhagavad Geetha which
describes some Godly virtues,
(second stanza of Sixteenth Chapter)
ahimsaa satyam akrodhas
tyaagah saanthir apaisunam
dayaa bhuutesu aloeluptvam
maardavam hrir acaapalam
since many are familiar with most of the sanskrit words, I would describe
the rarer words above,
apaisunam - aversion to fault-finding
dayaa bhuutesu - compassion to all living entities
aloeluptvam - free from greed
maardavam - gentleness
hrir - modesty
acaapalam - determination

Even though Adiyen could appreciate Sri.Tatachar's interpretation,  I do
not know whether 'hrir' infers Sri.Bhoo devi.  I think this is a good topic
for Sri.Azhagiya Singar Upanyasam, over telebridge.Adiyen,
