Post 28 Dear Sri vaishnava prunthagaiyeer, The enchanting sthuthi of my krishNa by the wives of kaaLiyan the snake is continued. Next slokam in srimadh bhagavatham is nama: krishNaaya raamaaya vasudhEva suthaaya cha! pradhyumnaaya anirudhdhaaya saathvathaam pathayE nama: !! The naamaas are Om krishNaaya nama: - naama 58th, 554th in SVSN Om raamaaya nama: - naama 396th in SVSN Om vasudhEva suthaaya nama: -no such naama in SVSN- but vaasudhEvaaya nama: Om pradhyumnaaya nama: - 646th naama in SVSN Om anirudhdhaaya nama: - 187th and 644th naama in SVSN Om saathvathaam pathayE nama: - 514th naama in SVSN Om krishNaaya nama: - meaning- prostration to you, oh krishna. This first naamaa available here is a very special one, for, it is a straight address to the very person krishNa, standing in front of these women. As in the first slokam "nama: thubhyam"- "prostration to you", after six slokams it is again another straight address here "krishnaaya nama:" 1. For any body, his own first name is very dear to him than other names, if he has more than one. Here, not only calling by his pet name, also his father's name is recollected. Further he is "sthava priya:". So the job of addressor is also becoming easy. His or her wish is easily granted after pleasing like this. 2. "krishna" means one who sweeps away from the heart, the sins, of those people, who meditate on him. Thus he is a very rarest of rare breed of "sweepers" who is able to clean up every thing including the hearts. Even ganga, the holy water carrying river, only washes the body and not able to sweep up sins and clean up the heart. That is capable only by krishna. 3. Krishna is an excellent farmer- he ploughs the hard stupidity in the minds of his bhakthaas- the mind is the land to be ploughed- prepares the heart - the field - for sowing. Then he sows the seeds of his grace, leading to a good crop of total bliss in that land. Incidentally the weeds are also growing in that land, the weeds being the "poisonous sins" are also removed by that farmer. Weeds also grow in that land, because it is the very nature of that land. Thus krishna is a farmer par excellence. 4. KrishNa himself says to arjuna - "karshaami pruthiveem Bhoothvaa karshaNaaya ayasO hala:" in maha bhaaratam saanthi parvam - when the earth becomes shelled in by its hard crux, I shall turn myself into an iron plough share, and shall plough the earth. So again another confirmation on that farmer who ploughs. 5. Krishna is a good librarian or an archeologist- as krishna dhvypaayana - vEdha vyaasa - he classified and sorted out the vEdhaas, split into 4 major branches and many sub branches, compiled into order. 6. Krishna is a good historian - pouraaNikar- again as vEdha vyaasa gave a good account of the deeds of the lord as 18 puraaNaas. 7. Krishna is a "musician" incomparable "flautist" to be precise - "naavalam theevil- idhu Or arpudham kELeer- govindhan kuzhal kodu oothina pOdhu" - please refer periyaazhvaar for the super musician's capacity in making the trees to shed fruits and flowers. 8. Krishna is a "thief" par excellence - while all others steal "valuable things" in the parlance of worldly people, he stole the soft butter available in plenty in any cowherd home which is just nothing for them. 9. Krishna is a great "teacher"- "aachaarya" - while all teachers do their teaching in a calm atmosphere, inside a room etc, students also kept in cool and nice atmosphere, this teacher prefers a war arena, the student under a condition of completely "agitated and aggressive" mood. What a difference- what a teaching- wonderful wonder 10. While one marrying the second lady is called as committing the offence of polyandry, here krishNa is married to 16000 and yet he is a recognised brahmachari - carrying out celebacy test - called to touch that utharai garbham to bring life to that charred piece as a result of aswaththaama's asthiram. Again what a way of expressing his supremacy in that brahmacharya vratham. 11. krishNa also mean black in colour. In SVSN, the naama in front of this 58th naama is saasvatha: [57th]. Combining this with krishNa, then it is "saasvatha krishna"- the one who is permanently black in colour. Generally the colour of a person tend to vary with seasons, his way of living etc, though it will not change so drastically. "krushir Bhoovaachakas sabdhO nascha nirvruthivaachaka: ! thayOraikyam param brahma krsuhNa ithyaBhiDheeyathE !! mahabharatham santhi parvam 343 meaning- "as my colour is dark blue or black I am called krishNa, O Arjuna". 12. Similarly the naama preceding the 554th "Om krishNaaya nama:" is "Om ajithaaya nama;". Just for the taste, combining these two, "om ajitha krishanaaya nama"- prostration to krishna who can not be vanquished. Like that we can go on listing the krishna specials. Such a krishna is prostrated by these ladies for asking him the boon of "pathi Bhiksha". The next naama is Om raamaaya nama: - prostrations to you, oh raama. The previous avathaaram of the lord comes to the mind of these ladies, and they are able to call him by that name immediately. Since balarama is also standing in front that avathaaram is not considered by these, but the previous one of raama. "ramanthE yOgina: asmin ithi raama:" - that which revels in every form and or that in which all yogees in their meditation revel he is raama. A classic skrithi in raaga kaanada comes to mind from sri thyaagaraajaa. Pallavi: sukhi evvarO raama naama - [sukhi] Who is the blessed soul who says raama naama? Anupallavi: sukhi evvarO sumukhi yevvarO akhila saaramagu thaaraka naama [ sukhi] Who is the blessed soul, who has that positive attitude to say that tharaka manthram "raama naama" - that which is life saving and the true essence of all things in the world. charaNam - sathyamu thappaka sakala lOkulaku Bhuruthyudai dhaiva BhEthamulEkha nithyamaina suswarapu gaanamutho nirantharamu thyaagaraajanutha naama [sukhi] Who is the blessed soul who can sing that raama naama, which if sung with all trueness and in all the entire world, can save from drowning into the world of sins. This thyaagaraja who does not have any difference among different gods sings that naama- who is that blessed soul singing raama naama. Only one point in this krithi - I would like to high light- see the words "Bhuruthyudai dhaiva BhEthamu lEkha nithyamaina suswarapu gaanamutho nirantharamu thyaagaraajanutha naama" is raama naama. He claims I do not have any "dheiva bhEtham" - difference among gods- mine is one only and only one raama. About other naamaas in the sthuthi of wives of the snake, we will see in next post.
