SrI:
SrImathE Ramanujaya namah:
Dearest Srivaishnavas,
The remaining 11 pAsurams in pAdhAthi kEsa varNanam of Kutti KaNNan is here:
11. nALgaLOr naalaindhu thingaLaLaivilE
thaaLainimirtthuch chakadaitthai saadippOi
vaaLkoLvaLaiyeyiRRAruyirvavvinaan
thOLgaLirundhavaakaaNeerE surikuzhaleer vandhukaaNeerE.
Within four to five months (which passed by like days) lifted the kutti foot
and kicked to break and kill the Wheel asuran (SakatAsuran- sent by Kamsa to
kill Kutti) and when big, went (to Mathura) to pick the lives (meaning-
killing) [uyir vavvinnan] of Kamsa, SisupAlan, dhandhavakthran et al who had
bent corner teeth (kOrai paal) and had swords with them. (vaaLkoL
vaLaiyeyeiRRAr). That KaNNan's shoulder- Look at that. Oh curly haired
ladies! Come and see.
naaLgaL naalaindhu- the four to five months passed by like days (since
the cowherd folks enjoyed their time looking and enjoying Kutti KaNNan,
their time was flying simply.
When AzhwAr mentions about the thOL (shoulders) of KaNNan, the tresses
that hang till shoulders are thought of and thus, calls the ladies also
with that adjective.
Here Thiruvaaymozhipillai refers to the yeyiRu + Ar + uyir = meant to
Poothanai and her uyir vavvinaan is referred.
12. maiithada~nkaNNiyasOdhai vaLarkkinRa
seythalaineela niRatthucchiRupiLLai
neytthalai nEmiyum sanghum nilAviya
kaitthalangaL vandhu kaaNeerE kanankuzhaiyeer vandhu kaaNeerE.
This little boy- who is of blue hued colour like the neelOthpalam; who is
the Greatest doing the grandest deeds (sey thalai); who is reared by the
collyrium-applied large-eyed (mayth thadan kaNN) Yasodha PiraaTTi. Look at
His lotus flower like palms in both Hands which carry the resplendent sharp
ChakrA and sanghu. Oh golden ear studded ladies! Come and see.
KaNNan had already hidden the four Hands with sanghu ChakrA after showing
off to Devaki and Vasudeva; where does YasOdhA see Sanghu and ChakrA? It is
AzhwAr who sees them. Also, one can visualize – When the Lord can see the
entire Universe in His mouth to Yasodha, can He not show Sanghu, ChakrA?
(the kaajal is not applied always by Yasodha. Since it is just four months
after birth, she has applied (which was essential for new mothers
(prasavaittha))
13. vandamar poonkuzhalaaycchi maganaagak
koNDu vaLarkkinRa kOvalakkuTTaRku
aNdamum naadumadanga vizhungiya
kaNdamirundhavaa kaaNeerE kaarigaiyeer vandhu kaaNeerE.
This Kutti KaNNan of YasodhA was brought up saying “he is our son”.
By cowherd folks like NadhagOpan (Kovalakkuttan). Look at that little
darling’s small neck which had swallowed the vast huge Universe, the worlds
and everything in one gulp through this neck. Look at that great neck. Come
oh beautiful ladies! See.
He did not crush the Universe and drank the jucie; Everything was in its
place. All could be seen distinctly in his stomach. {ThiruppAN perumAL said,
“aNdaraNda bagiraNdatthoru maanilamum yezhumaalvarai muRRum uNda kaNdam
kaNdeer; aDiyEnai uyaakoNdathE]
14. enthoNdai vaaycchingam vaavaayenRedutthukkoNdu
anthoNdai vaayamudhAdharitthAycchiyar
thanthoNdai vaayaaRRarukkip parugum ich
chenthoNdai vaayvandhu kaaNeerE sEyizhaiyeervandhu kaaNeerE.
“our bimbha fruit like (kOvaippazham) lipped Lion (of cowherd folks)! Inga
vaa! (Come here to us.) – calls the Gopika ladies (cowherd women) to lift
the Kutti in their arms and to drink the sweet nectar from His divinely
beautiful face with their mouths (by planting their kisses on Him and get
from Him too); to feel proud of that attainment (tharukki) of drinking from
such reddish bimbha fruits like lips. Look at those luscious lips red in
colour! Oh ladies with fresh ornaments! Come and see.
[Swamy Desikan in Gopala vimsathy says: adhaarahitha chaaru vamsa naalaam]
15. nOkki yasOdhai nuNikkiya manjaLAl
naakku vazhitthu neeraattuminnambhikku
vaakum nayanamum vaayum muRuvalum
mookkum irundhavaa kaaNeerE moykuzhaleer vandhu kaaNeerE.
Oh girls with dark densely grown tresses! YasOdhA picked the right, well
grown turmeric stick (manjaL) and changed its shape to make it appropriate
for cleaning the small cute tongue while bathing Kutti KaNNan; Our GuNa
poorNan (the Lord with most auspicious attributes) has such charming talks
(mazhalai – babble of babies); large, wide sparkling well laid out
(merciful) eyes; red coral bimbha fruit like lips and mouth; (and in that),
a sweet impish, charming smile always lingering in.. that aquiline sharp
(etpoo naasi - sesame seed flower like) nose.. Look at His Thirumugam
(divine face). Come and see oh dense haired ladies!
16. viNkoLamarargaL vEdhanai theeramun
maNkoLvasudEvar tham maganaay vandhu
thiNkoLasuraraitthEya vaLarginRaan
kaNgaL irundhavaa kaaNeerE.
He took the avatar as KaNNan, born as son of Vasudeva and came to the
bhUlOkam (earth) and in Ayar paadi in order to alleviate the sorrows of
Devas (by finishing the asurAs), He grows to destroy strong asurAs like
Kamsa. Look at His dark large eyes. Oh heavy bangles- ladies! Come and see.
17. paruvam nirambAmE paarellaamuyyath
thiruvin vadivokkum devaki peRRa
uruvukariya voLimaNivaNNan
puruvamirundhavaa kaaNeerE pooNmulaiyeer vandhu kaaNeerE.
KaNNan- born to save the worlds and people therein (even before he grows
up); born of the blessed one Devaki, who is like Periya PiraaTTi Mahalakshmi
in her swaroopam; born with dark, bright, blue hued gem stone like most
beautiful form. – Such Kutti Kanna’s eye brows- look at that; they are
beautiful to behold. Come oh girls who wear beautiful ornaments on your
breasts! Come and see.
Here Devaki is compared to Mahalakshmi not only because of hear beauty; also
due to her being able to withstand separation from the Lord for saving
people and killing asurAs (like SitA suffered in Asoka vanam and the
separation from the Lord); Devaki let KaNNan be taken out of her hands not
for saving the worlds .
In all avatars, PiraaTTi comes along with the Lord. Similarly Devaki too was
born as the wife of Vasudeva. He was Suthapas and she was his wife- pruSni;
When he was born as Kasyapa, she was adhithi. Now she is Devaki.
Also she is the most beautiful like PiraaTTi herself. The Lord (who dances
to the tune of PiraaTTi’s eye brows- meaning He acts per her nods and
approvals), wanted to have that particular eye brows (so that he can also do
the same) and thus, got it (the lovely eye brows) through his mother Devaki
(who has PiraaTTi’s form)- what an anubhavam by Sri UttamUr Swamy!
18. maNNum malaiyum kadalum ulagEzhum
uNNunthiRatthu magizhndhuNNum piLLaikku
vaNNamezhilkoL magarakkuzhaiyivai
thiNNamirundhavaa kaaNeerE sEyiazhaiyeer vandhu kaaNeerE.
This Kutti KaNNan- who enjoyed eating the earth, the mountains, the
surrounding vast oceans, and the seven worlds (below) and seven worlds
(above)- as if he eats milk, butter and curd.- with such relish;- Look at
this darling’s glittering, most colorful, and most beautiful, ear studs so
apt for His ears (as if they are made for each other); Oh girls who wear red
fresh ornaments! Come and see.
19. muRRilunthoodhaiyum munkaimmEl poovaiyum
siRRilizhaitthutth thirivOrgaLai
paRRip paRitthuk koNdOdumparamanRan
neRRiyirundhavaa kaaNeerE nErizhaiyeer vandhu kaaNeerE.
When the young girls (of three to five years of age) play building sand
houses and entrance, pillars etc., with few instruments, our Kutti Kannan of
about the same age (in 3 years) come from behind and grab their instrument
or whatever toys that possess in their hands and sprint laughing… That
Parama purushan’s forehead- look at that. So charming and beautiful. Come
and see, Oh beautiful girls!
Here the Paramapurushan’s sowlabhyam running so fast grabbing what comes in
His hand – is enjoyed. When he runs, the forehead is held high and is tense.
That scene is so enjoyable to behold in front of eyes and AzhwAr relishes
seeing the forehead.
20. azhagiyapaimponnin kOlankaikoNdu
kazhalgaL sathangai kalandhengum aarppa
mazha kanRinangaL maRitthut thirivaan
kuzhagaL irundhavaa kaNeerE kuvimulayeer vandhu kaaNeerE.
Holding the fresh golden stick in His beautiful resplendent hand, and making
sounds everywhere with His anklets while He walks here and there taking care
of the calves and not letting them run here and there’ – Look at that KuttI
KaNNan’s black curly tresses! Oh round breasted ladies! Come and see.
Like archAvataar (in Mannaargudi Sri Rajagopalan Swamy), He holds golden
stick even in vibhava avtaat too, it appears. The calves intentionally run
here and there and stand near Him in order to listen those musical sounds
emanating from His ankets while He walks with his short stout beautiful
legs. OR they themselves listening to His anklets come near Him; That’s what
He does taking care. He doe not have to chase them. So, all that He needs to
do to take care of them and call them is to: simply walk and move His legs
and the anklets sound inviting calves near Him..
21. suruppaarkuzhaliya sOdhaimun sonna
thiruppAdhakEsatthaitthenpudhuvai bhattan
viruppAluriatthavirupadhOdonRum
uraippArpOi vaigunthatthonRuvarthAmE.
The bees-residing most fragrant dense haired YasOdhA had described earlier
from the tip of the toe to the Head during KaNNan’s vibhava avatar- and that
is told with a desire (to enjoy narrating like Yasodha herself the ThirumEni
azhaghu- the divine Beauty of Kutti KaNNan) in 20 pAsurams plus this one
(21 in all) by SrI Villiputthoor Bhattan (BhattanAthan- PeriyAzhwAr). Those
who recite them knowing their meanings will by themselves go to Sri
VaikunTam and stay there for ever.
Here- the word- pOi vaikuntham- means: they will go via archirAdhi maargam
to Sri vaikunTam.
thamE onRuvar- They will get interested to enjoy the divine beauyty of the
Lord, get jnAnam as to what needs to be done to attain that desire and do
acts that are necessary to go to Sri vaikuNtam..
