Re: liberation

Ramanuja rejects the concept of embodied liberation as a contradiction in terms, since liberation in the full sense means the end of all karman, and thereby of all contact with gross and subtle physical bodies. The attainment of actual omniscience, etc, does not take place while the body remains. However, if by 'liberation' only self-realization is meant, then Ramanuja does not deny its possibility in the embodied state, and occasionally he does employ the word in this sense himself, as in Gitabhashya 6.3: yavad atmavalokanarupamokshapraptis tavat karma karyam 'until one attains liberation in the form of self-realization, he should perform action'.
