There is a possible reference to the wearing of Urdhva-puNDra in tiruvAymozhi 1.9.11: neRRiyuL ninRennaiyaaLum niraimalarp paadhangaL soodi ... Some commentators take this is a reference to wearing the tirumaN in the form of the Lord's feet (vide Kanchi Sri P.B. Annangarachariar's "divyArtha-dIpikai" on this pAsuram). However, other commentators disagree on whether this actually is a reference to tirumaN; the commentaries of the pUrvAcAryas do not mention the Urdhva-puNDra in their glosses on this pAsuram. aDiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Mani -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@eGroups.com Visit http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/ for more information
