Dear bhaktAs:

With due apologies for digressing from the main focus of this
discussion group, may I refer to a previous posting that aroused my
curiousity...

> Once when we went to Melkote in early november it was so 
> cold that the diesel inside our car got frozen and we had to push

I began to think about this, and looked up the web page of a fuel filter 
manufacturer [www.baldwinfilter.com/engineering/tsb_3.html].  Here is an 
excerpt:

"Number 2 diesel fuel begins to cloud as ambient temperatures drop 
towards 32 deg F (0 deg C). Below this freeze point, paraffin molecules 
combine to become solids in the fuel. This is known as the gel point 
which occurs at approximately 15 deg F (-9.5 deg C)...."

I wonder if temperatures in Melkote are at/below freezing in winter.
If so, then little wonder that people [used to tropical climates] in
South India should wish to wait until late morning to begin their
daily activities...
