Introduction

From the Bhakti List Archives

I am a new member to the mailing group and would like to briefly introduce
myself. I am an engineer working in the Los Angeles area and have been in
California for 5 years after completing my post-doctoral studies at princeton.
My wife and I have a 9 month old son - Aditya (named from the Sahsranamam).

My interest in Sri Vaishnavism started during my graduate studies. While in
India, like many others, I had absolutely no interest in my background.
However, I once heard some one refer to the Vadagalais as "thiruttu Vadagalais".
Since I have parents on both sides of the sect divide, I was piqued and resolved
to find out everything about the history and culture of the religion before
responding to any puerile charges (either way). Needless to say, I have
learnt only that there is an infinity ahead to learn. My primary interest
so far have
been in the cultural and social aspects of the religion with some forays into
the philosophy. Even though my tamil is very poor, I could not but realize
the grandeur of the prabandhams and the inspired nature of the authors of
these works. Part of my interest in the subject of srivaishnavism stems from
a belief (perhaps) irrational that given the way that society is moving, all
these valuable cultural foundations will be lost unless people take a stand
to not only live the ideals but also archive and freely distribute the
information.
