Wonderful poser. . Question is : does it matter? Assume for a moment god does not listen to your prayers. Do you have a choice? No. Whether you pray or not is immaterial. God, Heaven, Perumal, etc. call any name, but you cannot deny the omnipresence of an entity beyond your senses, beyond your mind, beyond your body, beyond your intellect and knowledge. Under this entity's hold the entire universe operates. You may claim that you have a distinct and perhaps somewhat superior capabilities - as a human you have something called the brain, mind, intelligence, thinking capacity etc. - but this is still limited and cannot comprehend the Immeasurable. You have created the concept of God because the mind cannot find an answer to your constant quest for something beyond yourself/beyond your body-mind-nexus. And to chat with God, again you have created something called prayer. So both God and prayers are your own creation. Now what is fact and what is fiction ? To know sincerely, and not indulge in idle curiosity for passing time, one must give a lot. The first step is the last step. To reach far we must start from very near. So, respected Madam do you sincerely wish to know? Beware, the writer is not assuring you any concrete answer which is what everyone one of us want and seek. A certainity so that they can follow that certainity and also confirm whether the certainity meets their own 'idea'concept'. The point the writer is making is that this question is a dynamic one and it all depends on the inclination of the seeker. It changes from time to time, season to season, external influences, social influences and so on. All these must be set aside and the mind made empty for the benediction to happen The writer's focus, interest and devoution is to the twin subjects of Yoga and Sandyavandanam. To some extent he can say that Yes, through preparation, one may make oneself (the mind/body nexus) fit to investigate whether there is God and if so whether God listens to prayers? what is God's role? Whether God is male or female? etc. But this requires preparations. It is a long and ardous journey. Not an impossible one though. It is a discovery in devoution. You have to plumb the depths of your mind to get into a silence where thought cannot penetrate. In this very brief, abrupt silence occasional flashes of something which is Pure may perhaps come about. There is a simpler way to start preparations. Can you tell what do you like doing most? Is there something, say driving, or swimming or maybe cooking a dish. This must not necessarily have any reason, rationale, logic. It has got to be absolutely something which is unique to you and for no reason whatsoever. Next, find out why you like that? If you can get a logic, answer, rationale, then you are on the wrong track, if you cannot find an answer then you can proceed further. One does not have time right now...Hope the group members also contribute and keep this thread of discussion alive. Lets continue after further inputs from other learned members of these fora. Om tat Sat Hello Everybody, Greetings. I am Sangeetha, Vadagalai Iyengar. I have a very basic doubt on whether god is really listening to our prayers and whether he is with us. I am not able to find an answer to this. I will be greatful if any one of you could share your mystic experiences.
