Dear Sri Prasanna,

The wondrous temple of Mangalagiri is within driving distance of
the city of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The area of this state
has been home to SriVaishnavas of Tamizh origin for many
generations, many of whom are still practicing the nuances of our
satsampradAyam. As a result, temples like Mangalagiri are
maintained with similar standards as abhimAna sthalams in Tamizh
Nadu.

While I have not visited the temple personally, what I have
learned from my parents and from books is that the second
statement is the correct one. The Lord stops partaking the
pAnakam when exactly half of it is offered, irrespective of
whether a cup or a 108 kalasams are presented before Him.
Indeed, devotees say that they are able to hear the Lord
expressing His Pleasure with a loud roar when this halfway point
is reached.

Others may be able to offer more.
