Dear Sri vaishnava perunthagaiyeer, Taking up the next paasuram first line reads "adiyOmOdum ninnOdum pirivinRi aayiram pallaaNdu". If we just read as "nin adiyOmOdum ninnOdum pirivinRi aayiram pallaaNdu' the reality on the relationship is more striking. The word nin is used twice. We are your servants- nin adiyOm. NinnOdum- with you- pirivu inRi- without separation. Aayiram pallaaNdu- thousand and many more years. Oh Lord! Let you and we, your servants, live many thousand years with you, without separation of each other. The bhagavatha ghoshti, yourself and we the servants let we all live together for many thousand years. Nammazhaar also says "ozhivil kaalamellaam udanaai manni vazhuvilaa adimai seyya vENdum"- 3- 3- 1 first line. Ozhivu here rest, intermittence, break, end, or separation. Ozhivil -no break. So what he desires is, there should be NO break in the period - kaalam. It is simply not period but at all times -kaalamellaam. For what?- adimai seyya- to do service- kaimkaryam. That too vazhuvilaa - blemish less service. Udanaai manni- along with you or for you. So the servitude for break less period is the utmost desire. Is this not saying the same as periyaazhvaar?- what is stated in pallaaNdu line being given in different words. Again same nammaazhvaar says in 3-7-7 "sanma sanmaanthiram kaaththu adiyaargaLaik koNdu pOi thanmai peRuththith than thaaLiNaik keezhk koLLum appanai"- meaning: the Lord, the father protects the servants over life [jenmam in tamil sanmam] after life and takes them to his abode gives them the status and keeps him under his feet as good servants- so nin adiyOm- no pirivu- separation- idea same - different words. AaNdaaL also claims "unthannOdu uravEl ingu ozhikka ozhiyaathu" in thiruppavai- 28 - the connection or relationship between you and us can not be snapped- inseparable connection exists- you are the master, we are the servants. Again the same in different words. There is another uniqueness here. Pick the first two words of the first three paasurams- then the sentence reads- "PallaaNdu pallaaNdu adiyOmOdum ninnOdum vaazhaatpattu ninReergaL". Now slight rearrangement - ninnOdum adiyOmOdum PallaaNdu pallaaNdu vaazha aatpattu ninReergaL- Hey Lord! you are bound with ourselves to live long long years (by our love and affectionate service to you). So the innate desire of periyaazhvaar for serving the lord for limitless years is beautifully expressed. Rest we will see in next post.
