From the Bhakti List Archives
• June 21, 1999
Dear Members, Tirupputkuzhi is one of the 108 Divya Desams with a special significance. This is the place where Sri Ramanujar studied Vedanta under Yadavaprakasa. This kshetram is also known for the great sacrifice by Jatayu, the king of birds. When Ravanan kidnapped Sita, it was Jatayu who came to her rescue on hearing her cries for help. Ravanan defeats Jatayu in a great batle and recounts the incident to Lord Rama before departing this world. Sri Rama inturn grants moksham to Jatayu and as per his request resides at this kshetram as Vijayraghava (on return from Lanka).
