Kindly refer to MESSAGE bhakti.v002.n585.4 d. Sat., 6June 1998 from
venkat@sindhu.rrsycore.co.in (venkat)reg:
M.V AnanthaPadhmanabhan (Krishnan)'s magazine. In this, he has
written:"If some font software could be decided and arranged for tamil
and sanskrit we can all use the same to read articles that appear in
"Narasimha priya" and in this magazine which is known as "Shri Sriranga
Satajith kripa".
I recently downloaded and I am currently using a very useful software
named ITRANSLATOR, a utility which converts ITRANS 5.1 text or text
files into Devanagari scipt (True Type), which can then be exported as a
file or pasted via the clipboard in any Windows 95 / NT 4.0 application.
Itranslator comes with its own ‘Sanskrit’ True Type font, which has to
be installed into the Windows Fonts directory. The program is freely
available by contacting the internite site
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/5105/index.html; the provider is:
Swami Satchidananda , Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas, Swami Omkarananda
Road, Muni-ki-reti, Distt. Tehri Garhwal
P.O. Shivanandanagar - 249 192, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA;
omkar@giasdl01.vsnl.net.in; omkara@geocities.com
The converted devnagari script files are saved as RTF files whose size
is about half that in WORD format. After I installed the Sanskrit font
provided in the program thro' the Control Panel in Win95, the RTF file
opened in my WORD '97 program automatically without conversion. The
fonts have an excellent appearance. I e-mailed one of my RTF files to
myself as an attachment, by way of test. The file was received and it
opened automatically in WORD in its original devnagari format. When I
enquired by email, the Ashram said that their code is made freely
available to any programmer who wants to add another language, such as
Tamil which I had proposed. I hope this information is found useful and
also, that someone will be able to add Tamil Font to this program. The
program has made the job simple, by dealing with Ghostscript, GS View
etc., in the background. The only job for us is to write the text
following the Itrans convention which is easy.
It has been stated in the message: "The lessons on Sanskrit will be
directly emailed to all those who wish to
get.The same is done with no return expectations." The procedure for
registering for this may be given, since my daughter wishes to avail
herself of this facility thro e-mail.
Wishing all success for this magazine's future,
Adiyen Dasan
